Like many of you, I learned to sew from my mother. As a teenager I loved making clothes for myself and friends. After college, I lost interest in sewing and didn’t take it up again for many years until I had the pleasure of experiencing the world’s first sewing café in Berlin Germany and my passion for making things by hand was reborn.
I loved being there and mingling and sharing ideas with other sewers. When I returned to Hong Kong, I vowed to open Hong Kong’s first sewing lounge. And now our community begins. So I invite you to share in this community, both on this website and at The Sewing Lounge !
Cassandra Postema is a fashion and print designer of Dutch origin. After graduating from Central St Martins School of Art in London, Cassandra started her career with her own printed womens wear label, Cassandra Postema London, which was awarded New Generation sponsorship from the British Fashion Council. This enabled her to pitch the brand on the London Fashion Week platform. It was sold in various iconic boutiques across London and was endorsed by Marie Claire, Vogue, The Evening Standard, TimeOut and many other media. Upon moving to Hong Kong Cassandra worked on the production side of the industry for a while, assisting clients such as Cerruti, Cacharel, Hugo Boss and Dolce Gabanna. Having collected a treasure trove of fabrics form around the world throughout her career, Cassandra has made some of this unique yardage available to be sold at The Sewing Lounge. They are either silks with her own print, Indian fabrics, vintage yardage or other brands' sample yardage.
